“Jim went above and beyond representing a family member of mine. He was available well outside of normal business hours.”

“Working with Jim Renforth during my DWI court process was so easy. Jim walked me through the whole process, told me the cost up front. Explained to me the classes and steps needed to be taken prior to court – which helped in my reduced sentence. Should I ever need a lawyer again, I will use him again.”
Carol
“As a result of some poor decision making and circumstances I found myself on the wrong side of the law. I took immediate action to rectify the situation and then contacted Jim to help me sort out the legal aspects. He and his team were fantastic through the process. They kept me well informed of what was going on and most importantly they achieved a positive outcome on my behalf. Solid representation, if I should ever require assistance again, I know exactly who I will call.”
Juan
“I have referred people to Jim over the years and they always have had good things to say about him and what great work he does. I would not hesitate to send a family member to him. Great guy and a great attorney.”
John K., Construction and Development Attorney
I am criminal defense lawyer Jim Renforth. Prior to my criminal defense practice, I served as a court probation officer, a deputy court chief, a narcotics task force prosecutor, and an assistant district attorney. Since 2000 I am proud to work alongside the great trial at the Jim Shaw. Together, we showed time and time again how to protect clients’ rights in Texas courts.
My formula for success has involved insightful investigations of circumstances leading to arrests, evidence collection and analysis, an ability to highlight inadmissible evidence and detect overzealous law enforcement behavior, fact-based advocacy in court and speaking truth to power behind the scenes. My clients know that their interests are aggressively safeguarded, start to finish.
I graduated with honors from Xavier University in Cincinnati with a degree in criminal justice after being awarded a full scholarship for basketball. Following graduation, I furthered my education in criminal justice by graduating with honors with a masters degree from Xavier a year later.
My criminal justice career began by accepting employment as a court probation officer in a felony district court in Fort Worth, Texas. I worked in that position for four years before beginning my legal career at Texas Tech School of Law. Following law school graduation, I worked for five years as an assistant district attorney in Fort Worth. While at the District Attorney’s Office, I rose to the level of deputy court chief while assigned to try cases ranging from DWI to Capital Murder. I was a member of the Tarrant County Narcotics Task Force as a task force prosecutor for several years. Following my time in the DA’s Office, I took the knowledge that I acquired and began putting it to work for those accused of crimes as a trial lawyer in the law office of highly acclaimed trial lawyer Jim Shaw.
Over the course of the next twelve years, I rose to the level of Senior Trial Attorney in The Law Office of Jim Shaw. “The Jims” defended thousands of criminal cases ranging from traffic tickets to Capital Murder.
In 2016 Jim Shaw transitioned to a more advisory role in the firm, as I continued the high standard of success established by Jim Shaw’s over forty plus years of criminal practice. I have benefited from the skill and knowledge of the extraordinary and unique trial techniques of Jim Shaw that established him as a leader in criminal defense as voted by his peers. (Awarded the 2014 President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Criminal Defense by the Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association.)
